The 2011 Piqua High School Show Choir Invitational will feature multiple visiting show choirs from Ohio,
Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia and Alabama. "The Company" of Piqua High School will participate in a non-competitive
capacity as the host of the Invitational.
The visiting show choirs have been selected through applications submitted by their respective
directors. An independent panel of adjudicators with wide experience in the choral, choreographic
and instrumental fields will judge the Invitational.
The PHS Invitational consists of a Daytime Competition, in which all of the participating schools
will take part, and an Evening Competition involving the top six mixed groups of the daytime event.
Daytime Competition
The order of performance for the Daytime Competition is determined in advance. Each
group is allowed 25 minutes for their performance and is judged according to specific criteria by our
panel of six judges. A 20-minute off-stage critique by two separate clinicians follows each performance.
Performances begin every thirty minutes throughout the day.
The awards ceremony for the Daytime Competition will be held in the Garbry Gymnasium immediately following the
last performance. Participation plaques will be presented to all schools. Awards for best female vocalist
and best male vocalist will be given at this time. The six mixed groups receiving the highest scores in the
Daytime competition will be finalists in the Evening Competition.
NOTE: DAYTIME AWARDS WILL BE HELD IN THE GARBRY GYMNASIUM. ALL PERSONAL ITEMS MUST BE CLEARED OUT OF THE
HARTZELL CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS FOLLOWING THE DAY SESSION.
Evening Competition
The order of performance is determined by a drawing. Each of the six finalists will repeat
their daytime performance within the 25-minute time period allowed.
After the six competing show choirs have performed, there will be a performance by the host, "The Company."
The Awards ceremony for the Evening Competition will follow immediately in the Hartzell Center for
the Performing Arts.
